Interannual Winter Site Fidelity for Yellow and Black Rails

چکیده
Yellow Rail (Coturnicops noveboracensis) is a species of conservation concern, while the Eastern Black (Laterallus jamaicensis jamaicensis) has recently been listed as Threatened. Both winter primarily in coastal areas from Texas through North Carolina. Between-year site fidelities these have not previously reported, so we analyzed recapture histories Rails banded southeastern Oklahoma (from 2008 to 2018) and 2006 2018), well 2018. We 111 421 during this time, 94 Texas. Although were routinely recaptured within season, only five individuals between years. All birds likewise exhibited low interannual fidelity, with no recaptures. The apparent fidelity (1.1% Texas, 0% Oklahoma) (0%) similar that reported for other grassland wintering grasslands area (e.g., LeConte’s Sparrow (Ammodramus leconteii), Henslow’s (A. henslowii), Sedge Wren (Cistothorus stellaris)), speculate could potentially be advantageous use early successional habitats.

Influence of age and sex on winter site fidelity of sanderlings Calidris alba
Many migratory bird species show high levels of site fidelity to their wintering sites, which confers advantages due to prior knowledge, but may also limit the ability of the individual to move away from degrading sites or to detect alternative foraging opportunities. Winter site fidelity often varies among age groups, but sexual differences have seldom been recorded in birds. We studied a popu...
متن کاملSite Fidelity and Individual Variation in Winter Location in Partially Migratory European Shags
In partially migratory populations, individuals from a single breeding area experience a range of environments during the non-breeding season. If individuals show high within- and among- year fidelity to specific locations, any annual environmental effect on individual life histories could be reinforced, causing substantial demographic heterogeneity. Quantifying within- and among- individual va...

From 1997 to 2006, we used mark–recapture models to estimate the site fidelity of 1250 Sierra Nevada yellowlegged frogs (Rana sierrae) in Kings Canyon National Park, California, USA, during their three main activity periods of overwintering, breeding, and feeding. To quantify site fidelity, the tendency to return to and reuse previously occupied habitats, we used multistrata models (with water ...
متن کاملDistribution of California Black Rails in the Sierra Nevada foothills
California Black Rails (Laterallus jamaicensis coturniculus) have a disjunct and poorly understood distribution. After a new population was discovered in Yuba County in 1994, we conducted call playback surveys from 1994 to 2006 in the Sierra foothills and Sacramento Valley region to determine the distribution and residency of Black Rails, estimate densities, and obtain estimates of site occupan...

Spiza americana (Dickcissel) colonized a restored Conservation Reserve Program grassland in Maryland during the second year of restoration and has continued to return in subsequent years. In 2000–2010, we banded 125 adult and hatch-year birds; during this period the population ranged annually from one to 16 individuals. Twenty-one percent of adult male Dickcissels (n = 38) returned in a subsequ...
